Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Texas Office of the Attorney General, Antitrust Section (“ATS”), based in Austin, Texas, seeks a Staff Economist. ATS enforces Texas and federal antitrust laws in matters involving collusion, monopolization, vertical restraints and merger review. ATS’s investigations and litigated matters span diverse industries, from high-tech to agriculture, and pertain to local and national conduct.
The Staff Economist provides economic analysis, both theoretical and empirical, and works with attorneys and investigators to guide ATS’s investigatory and litigation strategies. In this role, the Staff Economist provides counsel similar to USDOJ’s Economic Analysis Group or the FTC’s Bureau of Economics. The Staff Economist also works closely with consulting economists and testifying experts.
This is an excellent opportunity for a new or recent Ph.D. graduate who seeks challenges in industrial organization or applied microeconomics and has a talent for vigorously debating ideas. Candidates who write and communicate effectively and have expertise in a field of applied microeconomics, e.g. industrial organization, applied econometrics (including those specializing in other fields of microeconomics, e.g., labor economics), or microeconomic theory are encouraged to apply.
