Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Cox School of Business and the National Center for Arts Research (NCAR) at Southern Methodist University are seeking a post-doctorate Technical Assistant Professor. This shared appointment provides an ideal opportunity for recent graduates of PhD programs in technical fields, such as statistics, economics, operations research or applied mathematics, to gain teaching experience in a nationally-ranked business program and develop a successful research stream working in collaboration with a team of academic researchers who have collectively published in a wide range of elite journals in business, statistics, and the social sciences.

Candidates must be very proficient in SAS and R, with some proficiency in SQL, Python and GAUSS desirable. Oral and written proficiency in English is required, and some prior teaching experience is desirable. Initial teaching responsibilities will be to develop and manage computer language labs that support the Master of Science in Business Analytics program. Success in this initial teaching responsibility could lead to primary instructor duties in one of Cox’s highly-rated business programs.

Research responsibilities involve managing and leveraging NCAR’s unique database to publish academic research, working as a co-author with the center’s affiliated researchers. NCAR’s multi-level data include objective financial and operating data for some 50,000 arts organizations from 2007-2014, census data for businesses and households in all US census tracts and household-level arts patronage data for nearly 7 million households. These data have been integrated into a spatial model of the arts and culture ecosystem. To maximize research publication potential, the candidate should have a working knowledge of spatial statistics, stochastic frontier analysis, and high-performance computing.

Salary and benefits are competitive based on technical capabilities, research promise, and experience. Hiring is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check. The review of applications begins February 15, 2015 and the position will remain open until filled. The committee will notify applicants of its employment decision after the position is filled. Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae, a list of references, and evidence of technical capabilities, research promise and teaching effectiveness.
