Full Text of JOE Listing:
Under the direction of the State Treasurer, and in concert with staff of the Office of Revenue and Economic Analysis, leads the economic research function for the State of New Jersey. Monitors, analyzes and projects conditions and risk factors that may impact the State's economy. Oversees estimates of major tax revenues for the state, prepares budget documents discussing the basis for the estimates and bond disclosure documents discussing revenues, and advises the Governor, the State Treasurer and senior State officials of key economic developments. Provides public commentary on the State's economic position. Analyzes the State tax system and all administrative and legislative proposals for change.
Education Requirements:
Possession of a Master's Degree in Economics or related relevant field is required and a Doctorate's degree in Economics or a related field is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
A minimum of eight (8) years of professional economic research experience or other relevant experience in a national/international organization, an academic institution, or a public governmental entity with a proven, substantive (research and publication) track record. Candidates would be expected to be able to start and sustain analytical projects, and to communicate to disparate audiences in a wide variety of venues.
Residency Requirement:
In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70, new public employees, who are not NJ residents at time of hire, are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one (1) year of employment.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is offered as well. The Chief Economist is required to annually file a Financial Disclosure Statement with the State Ethics Commission.
