This position is located in the Office of Policy and Programs(OPP), Women's Bureau (WB), Department of Labor. The WB's vision is to empower all working women to achieve economic security by preparing them for high paying jobs, ensuring fair compensation, promoting workplace flexibility and helping homeless women veteran’s reintegrate into the workforce.

Responsible for planning and conducting statistical, economic, legislative, and policy research and analyses for management decisions and program planning in the WB that will lead to economic security for working women. The OPP is responsible for the WB's research agenda and providing economic research and analytical support relative to the outlook for women; studying the economic impact of existing and proposed governmental policies and practices; maintaining liaison with agencies and organizations conducting research into the economic status of women; providing economic advice, information, and technical assistance.

Duties:
- Serves as an economic advisor to the Chief of OPP, the Deputy Director, and Director of the WB on assigned agency policy and program matters that foster and enhance the welfare of women job seekers, women wage earners, and women retirees; and that prepare the women workforce for the 21st century economy.
- Oversees, manages and provides input regarding the development and use of short-term or long-term mathematical models that provide a basis for analyzing the economic well-being of women workers across and within sectors, as well as for projecting outcomes.
- Leads the design and analyses which address issues of employment and income policies, trends and disparities in labor force participation, unemployment programs, or other research and policy priorities.
- Contributes to the full range of the Agency's responsibilities, including constructing and improving models, performing analyses of proposed legislation, and preparing longer-term studies or shorter-term memoranda and testimonies.
- Represents WB at meetings with top-level representatives of business organizations; international, Federal, State, and local government groups; sister agencies of the DOL; Congress; and others on technical issues and in other matters of importance.

Qualifications Required:
Basic Requirement: A. Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience: In addition to the above basic requirement, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience the use of economic theory, principles, and statistical and econometric methods to analyze legislative and regulatory issues relating to social and economic issues in the labor force; compiling and assembling statistical data and applying statistical techniques and analysis of data; conducting independent research and preparing preliminary write-ups of findings; determining accuracy and relevancy of economic information; experience writing and/or editing books, articles, or papers relating to economic or public policy issues.
