The Department is organized in four divisions which undertakes research and teaches within business administration, innovation processes and entrepreneurship, quality management and social sciences, including economics. The Economics unit is part of the Division of Social Sciences. It has a strong, multidisciplinary research environment focusing on environmental, natural resource and energy issues. The division currently includes approximately 35 senior researchers and teachers of which seven are full professors, and approximately 20 PhD students.
The Economics unit is involved in research projects aiming to create efficient and environmentally sound biorefinery processes that use biomass sourced from forests as feed-stock. Much of this research applies a holistic multidisciplinary approach to study the possibilities and potentials for implementation of biorefineries in Sweden. A considerable part of the research is to develop economic CGE models, or partial equilibrium models, that can interact with e.g., energy system models.
In this context the Economics unit is now searching for an candidate for a post doctor position with a scientific track record in economics, an expressed interest in natural resources and energy economics and a documented experience in CGE modeling. The position also requires multi-disciplinary collaborations (with other social sciences and engineering sciences).
Economics concerns the study of how society can be organized to make efficient use of scarce resources. Research focuses on the economics of natural resources, energy and the environment. It applies microeconomic theories to study the behavior of energy and raw materials markets as well as how these markets are influenced by public policy.
The work duties include:
• Independent as well as collaborative research in economics within the scope of specific research projects (at least 80% of full time)
• Possibilities to teach and supervise at bachelor, master and PhD-levels in economics (at the most 20% of full time).
The post doctor position is a full time position spanning 1+1 years. The position is reviewed after 1 year and extended an additional year if satisfactory.
Qualification for an appointment to a post doctor position is a doctorate degree or an equivalent foreign degree in economics. Priority will be given to applicants that have completed their PhD degree no earlier than three years before the application deadline. It is required that the applicant has a good understanding of CGE-modeling (e.g., using GAMS). It is also desired that the applicant has knowledge of forest resources and forest issues.
The applicants will be assessed and ranked according to their respective scientific merits and their documented experience within the listed research profile and requirements (e.g., experience and/or expressed interest in empirical economic research focusing on natural resources, energy and environmental issues as well as knowledge of CGE-modeling). Other assessment criteria include:
• Documented ability of economic/CGE research
• Documented ability to conduct applied research
• Interest in research in natural resources, energy and environmental economics
• Excellent ability to take initiatives and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary research environment.
• Excellent communications skills in English, written and oral.
