Applicants are invited for a permanent appointment as Professor of Corporate Finance. UCD School of Business (Banking & Finance subject area). The UCD School of Business consists of the Lochlann Quinn School of Business and the Michael Smurfit School of Business. The Lochlann Quinn School of Business is located on the main Campus at Belfield while the Michael Smurfit School of Business is located at Blackrock, Co. Dublin (about five kilometres away). Academic staff teach in both schools.

UCD School of Business is Ireland’s leading business school and research centre. In 2009 we officially celebrated 100 years of business education.

One of the keystones of the School’s reputation as one of the world’s leading business schools is the quality and expertise of our Faculty. We are the only business school in Ireland to hold the triple crown of accreditation from AACSB (US), EQUIS (Europe) and AMBA (UK). We are also the only Irish member of CEMS, a global alliance of leading business schools and multinational companies.

We have been consistently ranked in the top 100 business schools in the Financial Times’ highly competitive global full-time MBA rankings and are currently ranked as 94th in the world and 34th in Europe. Our MSc Finance programme is ranked 36th in the world by the Financial Times.

The School is also home to the Financial Mathematics Computation Cluster (FMC2), a collaboration between industry, University College Dublin, Dublin City University and Maynooth University (http://www.fmc-cluster.org/). FMC2 brings together complementary expertise in financial mathematics, financial economics and computer science to create a multi-disciplinary research programme in asset and risk management, areas of critical importance to the future development of the international financial services sector in Ireland. Launched on 14 October 2009 with funding of €4.1 million, FMC2 is part of the Science Foundation Ireland Strategic Research Cluster (SRC) programme.

The successful candidate will offer leadership in the following areas and will have a track record of:

Research: The Banking & Finance subject area places considerable emphasis on research leading to publication in world class refereed academic journals. Members of faculty are widely published in journals such as: Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Journal of Empirical Finance, European Journal of Finance and the Journal of Econometrics.

Teaching and Learning: The Banking & Finance subject area makes a significant contribution to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including, in particular, the MSc Finance, the MBA, and the PhD programmes.

Strategic Planning: i.e. in conjunction with the College Principal and Dean of the School of Business, including the formulation and implementation of policies to develop the academic and strategic potential of the School.

Administration: Assuming appropriate administrative & managerial duties, which will include the role of Head of School - a rotating position. It is also expected that these tasks will be carried out efficiently, while fostering a spirit of collegiality within the School.

The holder of the post will be a member of the School of Business. S/he will also be a member of the Academic Council of the University.
