The Department of Economics at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment. This position has a probationary period before attainment of employment security, which can be as long as 8 years at the discretion of the university. The course load is expected to be six or more courses per year on UCI’s quarter system (6 courses involve 180 contact hours), although the load may be adjusted to take account of any administrative or other duties that the lecturer may assume. This series requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in economics and must provide detailed evidence of teaching ability (student course-evaluation ratings and other evidence) along with two letters of recommendation that attest to effectiveness in the classroom. Only those applicants with demonstrably excellent teaching records will receive serious consideration. Moreover, several years of post-Ph.D. teaching experience are highly desirable, although applications from new Ph.D.s will be considered. Evidence of research productivity is also welcome and can strengthen an applicant’s case.
