The Health Economics Resource Center (HERC) seeks a Center Director. HERC is the premier national VA center for health economics at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system that is affiliated with the Stanford University School of Medicine. HERC currently has 7 economists and 16 other staff who conduct studies using one of the largest healthcare data warehouses in the United States. It is part of a larger health services research center, known as the Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i) with 30 principal investigators and 100 staff.

The Director will be responsible for strategic guidance of the intellectual portfolio and core resources of HERC. Other responsibilities include program evaluation and personnel management. Director will be expected to maintain a funded independent research agenda, collaborate with clinical investigators and Stanford academic partners, VA operational partners, and provide consultation on economic methods to other researchers nationwide.

A PhD in economics and a substantial record of publication and research leadership is required.
The strongest candidates will have extensive prior experience with applied econometrics, cost-effectiveness analysis, medical decision analysis, or studies of health care efficiency, analysis of large databases (especially in VA), microcosting of organizational innovations and a strong history of previous independent research funding.
