The Program on Retirement Policy in the Urban Institute's Income and Benefits Policy Center is seeking a Research Associate to conduct research on issues related to retirement income security. The program focuses on such topics as Social Security and private pension reform, retirement savings, long-term care policy, health care costs, and employment at older ages. The program is a major project within the Urban Institute, a nationally recognized, nonprofit, nonpartisan social and economic policy research organization located in Washington DC.

The successful candidate will conduct empirical studies, develop economic models, write reports, and present findings to academic and policy audiences. The candidate also will participate in strategic planning for the Program on Retirement Policy, helping to formulate research ideas as well as obtain foundation and government support for them.

The position requires a combination of analytic and writing skills, relevant substantive knowledge, and social policy research experience needed to perform the duties described above. Candidates holding a Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or related field are preferred, but other applicants with extensive relevant experience will also be considered. The candidate must have strong quantitative skills and experience using micro-level databases. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. We especially welcome candidates with several years of applied research and/or policy experience.
