Monmouth College, a selective, private, residential liberal arts college with 1300 students is conducting a tenure-track search in Economics (open rank) to support the Economics curriculum and an innovative and interdisciplinary program in Food Security. Possible disciplinary specialties would include: AG Econ, Public Policy, Environmental Economics, International Economics and Development Economics that serve as the foundation of courses related to the production, distribution, regulation and marketing of food.

The Monmouth Food Security Initiative approaches food security from an interdisciplinary focus including the scientific, anthropological, ethical, economic, and political aspects of Food Security locally and globally. The successful applicants will help create an innovative model for liberal arts education by fostering the integration of knowledge in service of the important issues facing our world. Monmouth’s curricular focus on integrated learning is reinforced by a modern academic building that was designed to foster interactions across disciplines.

Located in the welcoming community of Monmouth, Illinois, the college is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest. Following the adoption and implementation of a groundbreaking interdisciplinary general education curriculum and the continuation of a bold strategic plan, the college is now prepared to move confidently forward as an innovator among liberal arts colleges in the use of coordinated hiring for programmatic initiatives, the first one devoted to Food Security. The college has invested 120 Million dollars into campus facilities in the last 12 years and this year Money Magazine ranked Monmouth 14th out of 665 “Best Colleges” in the Most Affordable Private Colleges category and 15th in “College That Add the Most Value” category.

The successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate teaching excellence, to teaching and research focused upon food security, scholarship, academic advising, and the College’s liberal arts mission. Candidates must show enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teaching and for participating in general education, including Monmouth’s Integrated Studies Curriculum.
