The Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks applicants for the position of Chair of the Marketing, Industrial Distribution, and Economics (MIDE) department. This individual will appreciate and embrace each of the disciplines housed in the department, and will provide a vision for further academic, research, and service collaborations within the Collat School and across UAB. The individual will report directly to the Dean.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop a strategic plan that aligns with the goals of the college and provide leadership to ensure the execution of this plan
• Shape the future of the department by working with faculty and staff to develop and articulate the departmental vision and goals
• Develop and enact a plan for academic program growth based on the enhancement of UAB’s interdisciplinary culture.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and support faculty teaching enhancement
• Maintain a high quality academic environment and provide support for faculty research
• Formulate and communicate recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, retention and evaluation of a diverse set of faculty and departmental support staff
• Adhere to the principles of academic governance, especially the collaborative development of appropriate procedures for governance
• Maintain a department climate that is hospitable and encourages faculty and staff engagement, participation, collegiality, and innovation in an environment of shared governance.
• Prepare budget requests, establish expenditure priorities, and fairly and equitably administer the department budget
• Act as the representative of the department to build support and visibility among internal and external constituencies (within UAB and among alumni, industry, government, the Birmingham community, the state, and nation)

Qualifications and Experience:
• Terminal degree in Marketing, Economics, Industrial Distribution or a related field, and academic credentials that qualify the candidate for the rank of a tenured full professor appointment to the UAB faculty
• Experience in University-level teaching, research, and administration
• Experience developing and growing online academic programs
• Distinguished, nationally recognized academic career
• Demonstrated knowledge of higher education issues at the national and global level
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and fairness, and the promotion of academic values
• Strong commitment to high standards and rigor in teaching and research
• Strong commitment to continued diversification of the MIDE faculty and student body, especially with regard to the recruitment and retention of women and under-represented minorities
• Strong commitment to fundraising with a track record of success
• Budgeting experience
