The Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a tenure-track teaching position at the rank of Instructor I. Starting date: July 1, 2015. This Instructor will be expected to teach six one-semester courses per year, which would typically include introductory and/or intermediate economics and specialized undergraduate field courses. Positions are subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Economics before commencing the position, and have experience in teaching undergraduate courses. Individuals with a proven track record of excellence in teaching economics and academic supervision of undergraduate economics students are encouraged to apply. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to make contributions to educational leadership, including curriculum development and course design. Experience in pedagogical research, economics curriculum development, and the integration of innovative teaching practices and technologies in the curriculum, as well as experience with professional associations supporting economics education, is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an excellent record of teaching and service. Service will include responsibility for some administrative work related to the undergraduate program in the School.
This is a tenure-track position and the successful candidate will be reviewed for tenure and promotion to Senior Instructor in their 5th year at UBC. An Instructor I who is reviewed for tenure and promotion to Senior Instructor will be required to show evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated educational leadership, distinction in the field of teaching and learning, sustained and innovative contributions to curriculum development and course design, and other initiatives that advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandate. It is expected that Instructors will keep abreast of current developments in economics, especially those directly pertaining to the subject matter of their courses. A Senior Instructor may be reviewed for promotion to the rank of Professor of Teaching in the fifth and subsequent years in that rank.
