The University of Zurich invites applications for three positions:
Professorship of Economics in Child and Youth Development
Professorship of Psychology in Child and Youth Development
Professorship of Sociology in Child and Youth Development
Applications are invited for positions as Full Professors (Chairs), starting, at the earliest, in August 2015.
The three professors will direct the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development, whose recent expansion is based on a contract and joint initiative of the University of Zurich and the Jacobs Foundation. The contract foresees the establishment of three new full professorships. In addition, three new assistant professorships will be advertised at a later point in time. Beyond their affiliation with the Jacobs Center, the new professors will be members of the respective faculties and departments (economics, psychology and sociology). They are expected to position the Jacobs Center as an internationally leading institution in interdisciplinary cutting-edge research in the area of Child and Youth Development.
Our faculties place strong emphasis on outstanding research and scholarship. Through its educational and research objectives, the University of Zurich aims at attracting leading international researchers who are willing to contribute to its development and to strengthening its reputation.
The research focus of the chairs will be to understand how social, psychological, educational, biological, and economic factors interact in creating opportunities and overcoming obstacles in child and youth development. The proposed Jacobs Center expansion will be devoted to understanding these interactions by integrating the different theoretical and methodological perspectives necessary to comprehensively address challenges to productive youth development. Relevant research topics could include questions such as: How do individual biological and behavioral characteristics, families, and educational institutions affect the course of child and adolescent development? How does social structure influence and interact with the develop - mental processes of children and youth? What are the key neurophysiological and epigenetic mechanisms? How efficient are specific interventions at different age periods in terms of social costs and benefits? How can intervention programs best be adapted to local contexts to increase their acceptance and effectiveness?
Candidates should hold a PhD degree and have an excellent record of academic achievements in the relevant fields. In order to increase the number of women in leading academic positions, we specifically encourage women to apply.
The closing date for applications is October 10, 2014. Please submit your electronic application including a CV, list of publications, a motivation letter and three representative publications.
