Full Text of JOE Listing:
The National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE) at the University of Southern California (USC) seeks qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research position in Economics, Risk Analysis or Operations Research. CREATE is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence in Research and Education. We do independent research in risk analysis, economic assessment, and risk management related to terrorism and man-made and natural hazards. Examples of CREATE projects include risk assessment of WMDs, development of risk communication messages, economic consequences of terrorism and natural disasters, measuring resilience, application of mathematical game theory to security problems, and the analysis of complex systems. CREATE has completed more than 250 research studies since its founding in 2004 (create.usc.edu).

The appointment entails work with internationally recognized faculty in terrorism risk analysis and economics and with post-docs and graduate students at the USC campus. The successful applicant will develop and apply models for enhancing the security of the nation and will participate in extramurally funded projects, develop their own research program, write proposals, publish research, and travel as required. The Center will give preference to economists with expertise in computable general equilibrium, operations researchers and risk analysts who have developed a research program in homeland security related issues, and to those who have a demonstrated track record of research funding and publication. A small amount of teaching may be permitted. Anticipated starting date is August 15, 2014.

Eligibility: Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in economics, risk or decision analysis, operations research or a closely related field (or expect to receive a Ph.D. by July 2014). Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and promise, regardless of nationality. The position is for one year with renewal up to three years contingent on funding and performance. USC values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment.

Starting salary: $63,860. In addition to the annual salary, the selected applicant will have access to a full range of university resources including benefits.
