Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Health Services Policy and Management (HSPM), Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH) at the University of South Carolina in collaboration with the Center of Economic Excellence in Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Science (CRRS) seeks qualified candidates for a tenure-track assistant or associate faculty position beginning in Fall 2014. The goals of the CRRS are to promote Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) in orthopedics and assess the extent that patients receive patient-centered care. Orthopedic practice is often insufficiently supported by randomized controlled trial evidence and innovative research approaches are needed to garner evidence from observational data. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking a university-supported tenure-track position in an environment promoting methodological development in concert with clinical researchers. Interests include, but are not limited to, developing methods that (1) lead to proper inferences on treatment effectiveness from observational data; and (2) providing valid measures of patient-specific preferences, beliefs, and constraints.

The CRRS is affiliated with the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas within the Greenville Health System. This affiliation offers excellent access to clinician co-investigators and patients for research. The CRRS has resources to support start-up projects to aid in future grant-funding. ASPH is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. HSPM is a full Graduate Member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and offers PhD, Doctor of Public Health; Master of Public Health, Master of Health Administration degrees.

Qualifications: A promising research record, quality teaching, and a doctorate degree (e.g., PhD) in health economics; health services research, health policy or a related field are required. Evidence of success or potential to obtain external funding is also required.

Responsibilities: Participation in the graduate program within HSPM developing a track devoted to CER; teaching CER concepts to undergraduates; externally-funded research program; collaboration with colleagues; and service to the University, profession, and community.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

How to apply: A letter of application, curriculum vita, and electronic contact information for three references should be sent by e-mail, with "HSPM Faculty Search" in the subject line, to HSPMCRRS@mailbox.sc.edu . Early applications are encouraged. Review of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, application by December 20, 2014 is recommended.

The University of South Carolina is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply, our many minority and female students value role models. The University of South Carolina has a generous family leave policy and is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
