The Brookings Institution invites applications for the Okun-Model Early-Career Fellowship in Economic Studies for the academic year 2013-2014. The Fellowship is designed to offer outstanding economists the opportunity to pursue their own independent research on applied and policy issues in economics over the course of a year at Brookings. Fellows will be in an excellent position to draw on the resources of scholars at Brookings as well as the extended policy community in Washington, DC. Fellows will also be able to participate in workshops and conferences at Brookings.

The Okun-Model Fellowship is designed to assist economists, in particular those who have between two and six years of experience since obtaining their Ph.D. Applications from other candidates will also be considered, but will be accorded lower priority. Candidates should be committed to undertaking research on real-world issues in economics and public policy. The application deadline is January 31, 2014.

Candidates must apply through the Brookings website. Those candidates meeting the minimum requirements for the position will be contacted to submit additional materials as:

- A curriculum vitae;
- A short (500 word) research proposal;
- Two letters of recommendation;
- Copies of up to five significant publications and working papers.
Candidates will be notified of decisions by April 15, 2014. Preference will be given to candidates:

- Who have two to six years of experience beyond the Ph.D.
- With an expressed interest in analyzing applied and policy issues and empirical research.
- With accessibly written proposals that address important issues in both economics and policy.
Only applicants meeting minimum qualifications for the position will be considered. Successful completion of a background investigation is required for employment in this position.
