Full Text of JOE Listing:
Associate Economist (Regulatory Economics), New York State Department of Public Service. Duties include: analyzing the competitiveness of electric, gas, and telecommunications markets; analyzing other regulatory economic issues such as pricing, energy efficiency, renewable energy subsidies and incentive mechanisms; making policy recommendations; and testifying in public hearings.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics or a Bachelor's degree or higher supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in economics and an additional 6 semester credit hours from among the following coursework areas: computer science, economics, econometrics, mathematics, operations research, research methods, or statistics. In addition, the candidate must have at least one of the following: (1) two years of professional experience conducting economic research related to public utility regulation; OR (2) three years of professional experience conducting economic research, one year of which must have been related to public utility regulation. Substitution: graduate study in economics may be substituted for the general experience on a year for year basis; OR (3) a PhD in economics with a dissertation on public or private gas, water, electric or telecommunications utilities.

Current salary range: $66,375 - $83,954 annually.
