2024 Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting

MEETING FACILITIES

ASSA Headquarters Hotel is the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. The co-Headquarters hotels are the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk and the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk.  Registration is in the Stars at Night Ballroom Prefunction, and Exhibits is in the Stars at Night Ballroom, Salon B; both are located on the third level of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Sessions/events will be held in the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk, and the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk.  The sessions begin Friday, January 5, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. and run until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Individuals unable to attend in-person will be able to view selected AEA live-streamed sessions for free.  

Participants are expected to respect the personal decisions of others to wear masks.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

The entire preliminary program is on the AEA website, with updates made continually. Printed programs will no longer be available.

EVENT APP

The ASSA Conference mobile application allows you to build a personal daily schedule, receive reminders and updates, find what you are looking for, take notes, and more. You will receive a username and password when you register for the meetings. This app will be available online the first week of December at www.aeaweb.org/conference.

A networking module in the ASSA 2024 mobile app allows you to connect with other registered attendees with comments and messages.  To remove the commenting and messaging feature in the mobile app, go to “More” and choose “Login Settings.” Then select “My Profile Settings” where you can change your “Active” status from “on” (default) to “off.” Other registered attendees will not be able to message you via the app when your active status is off.

REGISTRATION

Registration opened on September 12, 2023.  You will receive an email confirmation of payment with your registration ID number and the link to housing. If you do not receive a confirmation, email ASSA@vanderbilt.edu.  Check your confirmation for name and affiliation accuracy. We recommend you bring your confirmation when picking up your packet at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.   Everyone must register, including speakers, discussants, students, guests, and administrators. Badges are required for admission to sessions, exhibit hall, luncheons, and other activities. Pick up your registration packet at the Stars at Night Ballroom Prefunction on the third level of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. On-Site and Advance Registration Booths will be open as follows:

*The on-site registration line will be closed off fifteen minutes prior to closing of each day. Early registration fee (received by December 3, 2023) is $195. Registration fee after December 3, 2023 and on-site is $245.00. Online registration or onsite registration are the only options after December 3, 2023.

REFUNDS

To process refunds for pre-registration, you must forward your cancellation confirmation of your hotel room to assa@vanderbilt.edu or fax to 615-343-7590. We must receive your refund request by December 3, 2023. Refunds are not issued for any reason if requested after this date. If you are registering after December 3rd or on-site, no refunds are issued.

HOUSING

The housing site opened on September 12, 2023.  See housing instructions. Each hotel room requires a separate registration ID.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

If you need disability aids or services to fully participate in the meetings, contact the ASSA Registration Office at 615-322-3509 by December 3, 2023. If you need a specially equipped sleeping room, inform the Official Housing Company when making your hotel reservation.

SPOUSE OR GUEST

There is no spouse program. Spouses or guests wishing to attend any of the meetings may register by December 3, 2023, for $70.00. After December 3, 2023, and on-site the registration fee is $120.00. If your spouse or guest needs an affiliation on their badge, they must pay the full fee. 

AEA CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

The AEA will offer a set of three "continuing education" programs scheduled immediately following the ASSA Meetings. These will be held at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio. The programs are designed to help mid-career economists with heavy teaching loads or considerable administrative responsibilities maintain the value of their human capital. They are tailored to faculty at liberal arts colleges and teaching-oriented state universities who usually have fewer research opportunities than colleagues at universities with PhD programs in economics. The lecturers are leading scholars in their fields who are excellent expositors. The focus is on content to help improve both teaching and research. JOB MARKET

Job Market Interviews have always been a central part of the ASSA Annual Meeting but will occur online once again for 2024. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the JOE Network for your candidate profiles, job listings, and letter writing, as well as the application module that includes a tool for scheduling interviews. The AEA will continue to provide Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The AEA Committee on the Job Market offers periodic updates on conditions in the job market, and has issued guidance and a timeline for the 2023-24 economics job cycle. 

HOTEL DIRECTORY

To have your name and hotel where you will be staying listed in the ASSA online hotel directory, you must register for housing through the official housing company by Thursday, December 14, 2023. After December 14, 2023, or if you did not make your reservations through the official housing company, you may send us your name and location to be added by emailing assa@vanderbilt.edu. ASSA no longer provides printed copies of the hotel directory. . You can access the online hotel directory through the ASSA mobile app. If you prefer not to be listed in the hotel directory, contact assa@vanderbilt.edu by December 14th to have your name removed.

WELCOME RECEPTION

Please join us at the "ASSA Welcome Reception," January 4, 2024, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Grand Hyatt San Antonio on the fourth floor in the Texas Ballroom, Salon D. If you mark that you will attend the Welcome Reception when you register, you will receive a free drink coupon at the door. There will be heavy hors d'oeuvres available.

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

KiddieCorp will provide a professional children's program at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk in rooms marked Bowie and Travis on the Ballroom Level. You may print out the registration form or register online at https://form.jotform.com/KiddieCorp/assakids. KiddieCorp has been in business since 1986. Team members are qualified childcare specialists.

Exhibits are in the Stars at Night Ballroom, Salon B on the third level of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The hours will be:

Discounts are good from San Antonio International Airport and all over the city.

PARKING

Hotel parking rates range between $40-$57 plus tax per 24 hours. Parking Rates are subject to change without notice.

AIRPORT/HOTEL TRANSPORTATION

  • Uber and Lyft rates vary based on day, times and type of vehicle requested.
