Realizing the Promise of Education for Development: The World Development Report 2018
How can countries solve what has been called the “learning crisis” and ensure that education fulfills its potential as a driver of growth and development? This session will tackle those questions in a preview of the key themes from the World Bank’s World Development Report 2018, Realizing the Promise for Education for Development. Education is central to improving welfare—both inherently and instrumentally—and yet the Bank has never before devoted its annual WDR flagship to the topic of education. The WDR 2018 changes that: it will review the burgeoning evidence base on education and explore how to improve both education access and quality and to ensure that education spurs development. Key themes will be a focus on learning outcomes and skills for life and work and how education systems can be reformed to deliver them.
