Job Posting for Fellows Positions 2018

American Economic Association Summer Training Program at Michigan State University

The AEA Summer Program at Michigan State University is seeking applicants for their Fellows Program for June and July 2018 (May 31 – July 29). Fellows work closely with faculty of the AEA Summer Program, either as Teaching Fellows (TFs) or Research Fellows (RFs). TFs collaborate with leading faculty for a four-week period in either June or July in one of three courses (microeconomics, econometrics, mathematical methods), assisting in course design and implementation, conducting recitations sessions, leading study groups, mentoring students, and in other course-related activities. RFs work with leading researchers in executing the research courses and by actively guiding and mentoring small groups of students who are working on research projects for the two-month period in June and July.

In addition to working alongside prominent faculty and researchers in economics during the Summer Program, fellows receive full room and board, a stipend for travel to and from East Lansing, MI, access to MSU facilities, health insurance for the durations of their stay, and a stipend of up to $4,000 (1-month TFs) or $6,000 (2-month RFs). Fellows are also encouraged to participate in all program activities, such as the seminar and brown bag series and the excursions.

Ideal candidates are talented and dedicated PhD students in economics or related fields, understand the importance of a broad representation of backgrounds and viewpoints in the profession, and want to contribute to the goals of the program. Applicants should provide a CV (including academic background and teaching experience), one to three names of possible references (including contact information), and a brief statement of intent indicating their subjects/fields of interest, their availability (June or July or both months) and their desire to be a TF or an RF (or either).

This is a residential program and fellows are expected to be on site at MSU to work with students and faculty for the duration of their appointment (June or July for TFs and both months for RFs). Students that are selected to become fellows must provide a letter of support from their principal advisor or the director of their graduate program.

More information about the AEA Summer Program at MSU is available at Applications should be sent to with the subject line “AEASP Fellow Application” no later than February 28, 2018. However, applications are evaluated and offers are extended on a rolling basis.
