Is Blind Hiring the Best Hiring?

The New York Times Magazine covered a 2000 American Economic Review study in an article about hiring practices. In Orchestrating Impartiality: The Impact of "Blind" Auditions on Female Musicians, authors Claudia Goldin and Cecilia Rouse study data on symphony orchestra auditions during a period where the blind audition behind a curtain was becoming the norm in the U.S. They find that the practice increased the likelihood of female applicants being hired or promoted.
