Monetary Policy: Heterogeneity, Communication and Subjective Inflation Expectations
11-12 November 2022 in Bogotá, Colombia
Submission deadline: 31 July 2022

The Network of Researchers in Economics of the Central Bank of Colombia (Red Investigadores de Economía del Banco de la República) in association with the Department of Economics at Universidad Externado de Colombia and Francesco D’Acunto (Georgetown) and Michael Weber (Chicago), invites you to submit your papers to a conference on Monetary Policy to be held in Bogotá on November 11-12, 2022. The focus of the conference is the discussion of recent advances in the areas of the measurement and the consequences of household and firms’ subjective inflation expectations, as well as the role of communication as a policy tool to manage these expectations. In addition, advances in the role of heterogeneity for aggregate dynamics and monetary policy will also be a topic of discussion.

In addition to contributed papers, the program will feature a keynote address by Yuriy Gorodnichenko (UC Berkeley). All presentations will be in plenary sessions and each paper will be assigned a discussant. The conference will bring together top researchers from academia, central banks, and other policy institutions to present research findings on a broad range of topics, which include but are not limited to:

Effective monetary policy communication
Household and firm expectations formation
The role of expectations for household and firm decisions
Subjective inflation expectations and realized inflation dynamics
The role of household and firm heterogeneity for aggregate dynamics
Heterogeneous agent New Keynesian models

We invite authors to submit completed papers or extended abstracts. Preference will be given to completed papers. If you know of a paper that fits the conference theme, please forward this message to the authors.

You can submit your paper to Dr. Oscar Avila at the following e-mail address oavilamo@banrep.gov.co. Please also indicate in your submission whether you would be interested in being a discussant. The organisers will select the papers based on originality, analytical rigor, policy relevance, as well as thematic fit with the other papers on the program.

At the moment, we plan to host the conference in person in Bogotá on the premises of the Central Bank but we will closely monitor the pandemic situation and will promptly react in case the guidelines of national health authorities make holding the conference in person impossible. The deadline for paper submission is 31 July 2022. The authors of accepted papers will be informed by 30 August 2022. Local accommodation expenses for speakers and discussants from academic institutions will be covered by the Network according to its internal guidelines.
