Rohen Shah on parental reading time

Do reminders increase the amount of time parents spend reading to their children?

Rohen Shah is a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy. He sat down for an interview at the 2023 AEA poster session to talk about his RCT aiming to use behavioral tools to increase parental reading time with low-income parents of young children in Chicago. Contrary to expectations, he found that reminders actually decreased literacy skills despite no change in reading time.
