Statement of Purpose/Status

Statement of Purpose

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at Clark University, specializing in urban economics and international trade. My research uses quantitative spatial general equilibrium models to investigate the factors that influence the spatial distribution of economic activities and productivity growth in China, Japan, and the U.S.
My JMP, "Trade Costs, Entry Costs, and Regional Economic Growth in China," examines sectoral growth patterns across Chinese provinces during the country's economic takeoff in the early 2000s. I develop a multi-sector, multi-region spatial general equilibrium model based on the Melitz-Chaney framework and analyze how a series of key policy reforms—including trade liberalization, infrastructure expansion, business climate improvements, and relaxed migration restrictions—interacted to influence regional economic growth.
I am interested in an academic position in China. My quantitative skills and research expertise will be a valuable asset to your department.
