Labour Markets in an Enlarged European Union: What would raise Employment?
Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Research on European labour markets is of particular interest for the ECB as their functioning affects the economic environment in which the ECB's monetary policy of maintaining price stability is conducted. In this regard, labour markets have a particular role to play for the euro area's ability to adjust flexibly to changes in economic circumstances. The enlargement of the EU has changed the framework conditions for an efficient factor allocation in Europe and has created new opportunities as well as challenges for labour market adjustment and employment creation, which require a thorough analysis. The workshop organisers are particularly interested in papers addressing at least one of the following labour market themes: 1. Challenges for labour markets in the new EU Member States. 2. Challenges of enlargement for labour markets in the old EU Member States. 3. What would raise employment in the enlarged EU?
