The Joseph R. Biden Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration invites applications for two tenure-track positions: one in political economy and one in applied economics.

Political Economy

The political economy position is at the advanced assistant or associate level. Preference is given to candidates with research interests and expertise in the quantitative analysis of issues related to democratic institutions, public policy and democracy, or civic engagement. The successful candidate will contribute to the SNF Ithaca Initiative by addressing civic engagement, civil discourse, or the role of media in democracy.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Public Policy, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science, or a related field and a scholarly record of publication that is appropriate to the academic rank of appointment. Candidates who currently hold tenure-track appointments at the Assistant Professor level are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applied Economics

The applied economics position is at the advanced assistant or associate level. The ideal candidate’s research should be in applied microeconomics with a focus on issues related to public policy or the public sector. The ability to teach quantitative methods, economics, and/or statistics courses is expected.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or a related discipline at time of application and a scholarly record of publication that is appropriate to the academic rank of appointment. Candidates who currently hold tenure-track appointments at the Assistant Professor level are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates for both positions will contribute to the research, public service, and educational missions of the Biden School. All new hires are expected to compete for grants and contracts. Candidates must also demonstrate potential for high-quality teaching and show the ability to contribute to the Biden School teaching mission at the undergraduate, master’s, and/or doctoral levels.

For both positions, applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV, a recent publication/manuscript, evidence of teaching effectiveness, research statement and three letters of reference. Additional information may be requested after initial review of applicants.
