About the Opportunity
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its nine tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. The Department of Economics at Northeastern University invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of tenured Full Professor. The successful applicant will lead a department with a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty. The Department is home to a BA and a BS in Economics, several joint undergraduate majors with other departments and colleges/schools, a Masters of Science in Economics, and a PhD in Applied Economics. The search is open to all fields in Economics. The successful candidate could have a joint appointment in another department. We invite scholars from a broad and diverse set of backgrounds, including those who employ a range of methodologies.
Responsibilities:
Candidates should be prepared to build forward-looking programs, promote faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement, help develop collaborative research agendas, expand and build relationships in Northeastern’s global network of campuses, and teach courses in their expertise. Ideal candidates will leverage and support the growing opportunities our university offers to engage in innovative research and teaching.
A successful candidate will have a strong scholarly record, significant experience in teaching, administrative experience commensurate with the role, and the capacity to support the experiential liberal arts, campus network, and the interdisciplinary mission of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and Northeastern University. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, as well as enthusiasm for working with colleagues in creative and innovative ways to engage in problem-focused, interdisciplinary research with the potential for impact in the world.
Qualifications:
-Ph.D. in Economics or equivalent by the appointment start date
-Commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and bringing creative strategies to address the challenges of recruiting and retaining students, staff, and scholars from historically underrepresented groups
-A record in research, teaching, and service sufficient to merit tenure upon hire at the rank of full professor
-Commitment to faculty development and mentoring
-Commitment to engaged and impactful research and innovation
-Commitment to the continued development of Northeastern University’s signature experiential learning model
