Summary
The University of Michigan Department of Economics' Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics (RSQE) wants to hire an empirical macroeconomist or regional economist reporting to the RSQE Director Gabe Ehrlich. RSQE publishes forecasts of the U.S., Michigan, and local economies; advises university and government officials on the economic and fiscal outlook; conducts economic impact analysis studies; and informs the public about economic issues facing the state. RSQE is the world's longest running economic forecasting group, having been founded by Nobel Laureate Lawrence Klein in 1952. Responsibilities
Participate as a senior analyst in planning and producing RSQE's forecasts across multiple geographies.
Participate as a senior co-author in writing the accompanying forecast documents and presentations.
Manage research to improve RSQE's forecasting models.
Improve RSQE's data gathering and distribution efforts.
Participate in economic impact analyses and projects related to grants and contracts.
Take a leadership role in developing external funding by planning and writing grant proposals.
Develop and refine statistical models for use in RSQE's research.
Handle inquiries from the press, forecast surveys, government agencies, and forecast audiences.
Identify and secure additional support and funding to advance RSQE's mission.

Required Qualifications
Hold advanced degree in Economics or related field of study.
3 years of experience with knowledge of statistical methodologies and economic forecasting, which can include experience gained in advanced academic studies.
Experience analyzing, comparing, and evaluating time-series data and communicating and presenting results both in writing and orally.

Desired Qualifications
Ph.D. in Economics or related field of study or Master's degree in combination with work experience.
5 years of experience with knowledge of statistical methodologies and economic forecasting, which can include experience gained in advanced academic studies.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing independent research projects.
Demonstrated experience writing and developing proposals for research grants or contracts.

Work Locations
You will work in a hybrid fashion, reporting to the Ann Arbor Campus with the ability to work remotely as determined by projects needs and departmental guidance.
Periodic travel may be required.

The decision about the level will be based on the overall experience of the selected candidate and equity within the department. High-level differences between the levels appear below and candidates with the potential to grow into a lead role are encouraged to apply.
The salary range for this position will be:

Senior Level (Required Qualifications): $94,000 - $109,000
Lead Level (Desired Qualifications): $104,000 - $126,000

A higher salary may be possible for well-qualified candidates.
