Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Labor seeks to fill several economist positions located in the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). EBSA is committed to protecting retirement, health, and other employee benefits, thereby advancing the retirement security and health of our nation’s workers, retirees, and their families. We develop effective regulations; assist and educate workers, plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and service providers; and vigorously enforce the law. Economists in this position will apply economic theory and analysis to social protection and insurance programs, such as private employment-based health and pension benefits, and Social Security. They will conduct economic impact analyses of major regulatory actions taken by EBSA, often developing estimates of their costs and benefits. Economists will provide statistical, financial, and economic analysis to other EBSA offices relating to enforcement targeting, case support, compliance, participant assistance, and performance measure projects. They will also review research from academic and industry sources, critically analyzing the strength of their conclusions, and examining how their findings can be used to predict the impact of policy proposals. Economists must communicate effectively, both in writing and at briefings, when discussing highly technical concepts and methodologies with a wide variety of audiences that includes senior policy officials, economists, attorneys, and non-experts.
