The Office of the Investor Advocate (OIAD) at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) headquartered in Washington D.C. is recruiting for a full-time Economist. Fellowship appointments are initially 2 years, with the option to extend an additional two years. Fellows can compete for, and have received, permanent SEC positions during their Fellowships.
Fellows serve in the Office of the Investor Advocate (OIAD), Office of Investor Research (OIR), a unique interdisciplinary research lab environment that studies households and investor-relevant issues. OIR staff analyze the potential impact of proposed policy changes on investors and conduct investor testing through the POSITIER program to encourage the adoption of data-driven policies (https://www.sec.gov/advocate/positier).

We are seeking motivated candidates who are interested in performing high-quality academic and policy research. Candidates completing their Ph.D. in 2022 or 2023 are eligible. Those with an interest in: household finance, labor, behavioral economics, law and economics, finance (particularly investor decision making, behavioral finance), marketing, decision science, psychology, experiments, or survey methodology are strongly encouraged to apply.

Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Decision Science, Marketing, Psychology or related fields
An open-minded approach to studying investor issues within a collaborative interdisciplinary research lab environment is essential. Moreover, our most successful staff learn to demonstrate fluency with many different types of data collection modalities and research projects.
Strong empirical research skills
Candidates may be asked to help to develop new datasets via surveys, experiments, administrative data, etc.

An interest in working in a fast-paced policy environment is essential. Prior policy experience is desirable, but not required.
