Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) seeks two Financial Economists for the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP). All candidates with an interest in applied microeconomics are encouraged to apply. A background in banking or consumer finance research is not required.

The FDIC’s mission is to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation's financial system. In support of this mission, economists in DCP conduct research on topics that include consumer and household financial decision-making, consumer financial product markets, community development, economic inclusion, consumer protection, and fair lending. Economists participate in the design and analysis of regularly-conducted, high-profile household and bank-level national surveys, as well as other consumer-related research initiatives.

DCP economists are expected to conduct independent self-directed research for presentation at professional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed academic journals. Economists at the FDIC have both access to a wide range of proprietary data and support by research assistants to further their research agendas.

In addition to an active consumer research seminar series, DCP also sponsors a consumer research symposium that brings together academics and researchers in government and think tanks. (Past conference programs may be found here: https://www.fdic.gov/news/conferences/consumersymposium)

The FDIC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Note: If your education was completed in a foreign college or university, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs, and that such education is deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program by December 2, 2022. This process can take several weeks to complete. For more information, please visit: https://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/applicationofstds-04.asp)
