The Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) is the California Legislature’s nonpartisan fiscal and policy advisor. The LAO assists the Legislature with all aspects of the state budget process and provides independent analysis on various policy and public administration issues. We also advise voters of fiscal effects of ballot measures though the state’s Voter Information Guide.
We are seeking an economist to work in the areas of corporate taxation, business incentives, and tax administration. Prior work on these topics is not required. Key responsibilities include: quickly, pragmatically evaluating funding proposals for state programs; forecasting corporation tax revenues; advising the Legislature on corporate taxation, business incentives, and tax administration; and representing the office in public hearings, meetings, and media interviews. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively through clear, concise writing and oral presentations, primarily to lay audiences. Candidates must be able to collaborate in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
