The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health seeks economists who are passionate about health services and health economics research with high impact on healthcare policy, health services delivery, health outcomes, and/or public health. Interested faculty should also be trained and capable of teaching microeconomics, health economics, econometrics and quantitative research methods, and preferably have training or experience with economic evaluation methods.

The UTHealth School of Public Health has 165 faculty and 1300 students at campuses in Austin, Brownsville, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio; each campus strategically located across Texas. The UTHealth School of Public Health is a top ranked school with a strategic vision for leading population health innovation and practice. This position is in the Department of Management, Policy and Community Health (MPACH) at the Houston campus.

Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States and boasts a strong economy with a relatively low cost of living (www.houstontx.gov). The Houston Campus is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world—with eight million patient visits and more than 180,000 surgeries annually. Texas Medical Center members include but are not limited to: MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Children's Hospital, Memorial Hermann Health System, CHI's St. Luke Health, and Houston Methodist. Texas is a large and diverse state that has not expanded Medicaid, creating unique opportunities for health services research.

Primary responsibilities will be: (1) establishing an externally funded research program focused on health services and/or health economics research; (2) mentoring emerging scholars in health economics; (3) teaching in MPH and/or doctoral programs; and (4) serving in institutional and external capacities.

Qualifications include: (1) an earned doctoral degree in economics, public policy, health economics or equivalent area; (2) graduate level training in economics if the doctoral degree is not in economics; (3) a track record and/or strong promise of obtaining peer-reviewed funding and publications; (4) expertise in big data analysis, health economics, health services, and health policy research; (5) commitment to excellence in teaching and advising graduate students; and (6) excellent written and oral communication skills.
