Independent Institute (independent.org) is seeking applications for the new position of Research Fellow in Housing and Homelessness. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the Center on Entrepreneurial Innovation (COEI), which houses Independent’s housing and homelessness research program.

The Research Fellow will perform original and innovative research; write persuasive commentaries, reports, briefings, journal articles, and books; help create videos; conduct literature reviews; help curate a website; perform statistical/econometric analysis; perform media interviews; engage in civic outreach, and participate in conferences.

Public policy issue areas might include housing, homelessness, Housing First, harm reduction, mental illness, substance abuse, urban decay and revitalization, and successful private alternatives to government approaches at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

Working in Oakland or Sacramento, California, is preferred, but superior candidates who want to work remotely will be considered.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. in economics, political science, history, applied statistics, or related fields.
M.A. in above will also be considered.
2-4 years of research experience focused on housing, homelessness, and/or urban policy issues with a track record of accomplishments and be proficient at statistical/econometric analysis preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to persuasively communicate complex issues to the public.
