Senior Energy Economist, CBEA The UW Center for Business and Economic Analysis (CBEA) supports the economic growth and diversification of Wyoming's economy through applied economic and business analytics for communities, industries, entrepreneurs, and the State of Wyoming.

Position Expectations And Compensation:

The Senior Energy Economist will work closely with the Director of the CBEA to undertake economic analysis of the energy sector. An area of focus will be evaluation of the economic impact, including job creation and local and state revenue, of different aspects of the nuclear energy industry in Wyoming. While it is expected that nuclear will be a principal area of focus initially, other potential areas of focus include carbon capture and storage, oil and gas production (including enhanced oil recovery), wind, solar, rare earth elements and critical minerals, etc.

This position is funded for two years by the School of Energy Resources (SER) at the University of Wyoming. The senior energy economist will be expected to work closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders at SER and in the energy sector, with the goal of deepening Wyoming’s investment in the energy industry. More specifically, the candidate will collect data, execute economic impact analysis, and work with stakeholders to encourage economic development in the nuclear and other energy-related industries. Funding is guaranteed by SER for the first two years, but the expectation is that successful candidates will be offered continued employment in the CBEA through funding from grants and special projects.

The salary range is $100k-$120k, depending on the applicant’s qualifications. The benefits package is generous and standard for University of Wyoming personnel (click here for details).

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires an MS or PhD degree in economics or a related field. The position also requires explicit knowledge of standard statistical software, such as R, Python, or Stata.

Successful applicants should possess excellent communication and applied research skills.

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in economics and 3-5 years of experience with economic analysis in the energy industry.

Other desired qualifications include: (1) Knowledge of and experience with software for economic impact analyses, such as IMPLAN or REMI. Experience with survey analysis and programming in Qualtrics is also desired. (2) Knowledge of Wyoming’s economy and the energy industry. (3) Applicants should have a documented ability to effectively communicate verbally and orally to diverse audiences about complex topics involving data, and prior experience working cooperatively with government agencies and private industry.
