The Department of Agricultural Economics is a large, diverse department with a broad array of programs, faculty, and students focusing on the application of economic analysis to decision problems in agriculture, natural resources, agribusiness, finance, international trade, policy, marketing, and community economics. The Department invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position (50% teaching, 50% research) with a nine-month academic appointment beginning Spring semester 2023. The Department seeks individuals to contribute the learning and work environment at the Texas A&M Higher Education Center McAllen campus. These individuals also will carry out research in association with the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center located at Weslaco, Texas. These duties will help Texas A&M University to serve Texas and the Nation via education /research in a region that is a critical economic gateway to and from Mexico and all of Latin America. Individuals with diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Provide teaching of undergraduate courses, particularly microeconomics and macroeconomics principles as they apply to several of the following areas: agricultural finance, marketing and sales, agribusiness, management, entrepreneurship, agricultural and food policy, international trade, financial planning, and natural resources. The teaching will be done within the agricultural economics program located on the McAllen campus. The research will cover at least one of the following subject matter areas: (1) production economics as well as data science applications in precision agriculture; (2) water economics as well as environmental sustainability and climate change; (3) international marketing; (4) agribusiness, supply management and logistics; (5) community development; and (6) rural /metropolitan entrepreneurship. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to interface with communities and stakeholders in the Rio Grande Valley and to work on economic issues associated with the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Weslaco. The successful candidate should maintain strong ties with the Department of Agricultural Economics and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the Texas A&M University campus at College Station. The successful candidate is expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals and secure outside funding for research.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in agricultural economics, economics, business, or related field.
