The City of Seattle recently established the Office of Economic and Revenue Forecasts to provide independent, non-partisan economic and revenue forecasts to the City Council and Mayor. This office is responsible for forecasting the City’s most significant revenue sources, including sales, business and occupation, property, and payroll taxes, that combined account for more than $1 billion in annual revenues.

Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Director and Chief Economist to develop and implement econometric models to forecast local economic conditions and City revenues. Build and maintain the datasets needed to support forecasting and revenue policy analysis. Analyze new revenue proposals, including their financial potential and broader policy implications. Leverage visualization to inform decision-makers on economic and revenue issues. Communicate the work through written reports, oral presentations, and briefings.

Skills an Ideal Candidate Should Possess

- Applying statistical and econometric techniques, conducting data analysis to support public policy
- R (tidyverse) experience required; experience with EViews and SQL is an advantage
- Power BI knowledge is highly sought after, or willingness to learn Power BI
- Being able to create and deliver oral and written presentations that clearly communicate findings
- Ability to produce, track and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines
