Research Director

Salary range is £64,827 to £83,187, plus a significant market supplement

The International Growth Centre (IGC) works with policymakers in developing countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth through pathbreaking research. We are a global research centre with a network of world-leading researchers and in-country teams and initiatives working across Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. Based at LSE and in partnership with the University of Oxford, we are majority funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We work to improve the productivity of people and firms as the key driver of sustainable economic development.

We are seeking an exceptional Research Director to provide vision and leadership for IGC’s research activities and to help drive IGC’s strategic thinking as part of the Senior Management Team. Reporting to the IGC’s Executive Director and working closely with the internationally renowned IGC Directors and Research Programme Directors, you will be responsible for leading and implementing the research strategy and for ensuring that IGC research has high academic and policy impact. You will work with some of the world’s top economic growth thinkers and lead a dynamic team of programme and initiative heads in an intellectually challenging, innovative, and collaborative environment. You will bring curiosity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for IGC’s co-generation model of researchers working in close partnerships with policy makers. You will have a hands-on, team-oriented approach and a track record of high-quality published research and experience in research management.

The position is based in the IGC head office at LSE with the possibility of some remote working and is offered full time on an open-ended basis to September 2026, subject to funding. We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities. For this post, we may be able to offer visa sponsorship to the successful candidate.
