The Opportunity
The Australian Electricity Market Initiative (AEMI) is a new initiative introduced by the Monash Business School to spur academic research, policy formulation and industry engagement in the electricity sector in Australia. Its goal is "to become the pre-eminent centre for all matters related to electricity markets." AEMI benefits from the active support of the Dean of the School, and readily has access to the main market regulators. Areas of research that AEMI focuses on are: network pricing and regulation, wholesale market design, nodal pricing, the impact of vertical integration and the impact of renewables and of storage.
We seek to expand our team with a multi-year post-doctoral program. We are looking for outstanding candidates to assist us to deliver on this ambitious agenda. We offer a competitive compensation, a stimulating working environment in a top-ranked institution in Australia, an attractive location, a discretionary research budget and time for post-doctoral researchers to conduct their own research. Post-doctoral researchers should expect to work 50% of their time on directed tasks, and devote the remainder to their own research agenda.
We have two positions open: one in market design, the other one in industrial organisation.
The Candidate
Candidates must possess a PhD, or be close to completion at the time of applying, and must be active researchers in either market design or stochastic games, or industrial organization. Candidates need hold institutional knowledge of these markets, but that is a distinct bonus. Ideally the candidates' research agenda aligns with that AEMI to make best use of the resources available. Due to the PhD requirement, the remuneration range will be $86,025- $92,343 pa Level A commencing from Step 3 (plus 17% RC). Expected start date: March to July 2022.
