The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, College of Social Sciences, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the University of Hawai‘i Economic Research Organization (UHERO, 50% FTE) and Department of Economics (50% FTE) in the field of applied microeconomics with a preference for scholars working in the area of state and local public finance. This is a full-time, permanent, 9-month tenure-track appointment, position #84827, to begin August 1, 2022 subject to position clearance and availability of funds. Position funded from existing extramural funds for three years and thereafter by general funds.

Duties: Conduct applied research in state and local tax policy and public finance. Publish in peer-reviewed academic journals, and serve as principal investigator on extramurally funded projects. Teach courses within the Department of Economics on fields of expertise including Public Economics, State and Local Public Finance, or others as needed. Provide service to UHERO, the department, university and community in congruence with UHERO’s mission. Other duties as assigned by the director.

Minimum qualifications:
1. PhD in Economics from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent. ABDs will be considered but all degree requirements must be completed prior to date of hire. ABDs must also submit a letter from their committee chair attesting that dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed prior to date of hire.
2. A record of research achievement (publications, grants) commensurate with time in field.
3. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor and advise students in the applicant’s area of expertise.

Pay range: Commensurate with training and experience.
