Full Text of JOE Listing:

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the lab of Brian Elbel, PhD, MPH. The lab uses health economics and policy to understand the role of the environment in shaping chronic conditions, in particular identifying the way social determinants create differences in health outcomes among New York City’s public school population. The Fellow will study how disruptions to children’s health and education during the COVID-19 pandemic created risk for long-term health outcomes, identifying how effects are unevenly distributed amongst children and how neighborhood and school characteristics mitigate and exacerbate sustained effects. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, the Fellow will engage in all stages of research. They will be expected to work independently to develop and execute complex analyses, including spearheading specific sub-projects and making decisions and recommendations about techniques, scope, and approach.

Responsibilities
• Participate in discussions to shape the direction of the research with a stellar team of interdisciplinary scientists
• Work effectively with large, complex, and noisy administrative data to solve challenging problems
• Define scope and selection of advanced econometric and statistical techniques, including cohort analyses, time series, difference-in-differences
• Clearly communicate processes used and results achieved; lead critical discussions
• Draft articles, reports and presentations
