Vice President and Director of Microeconomic Studies

The Vice President and Director of Microeconomic Studies leads a team of Ph.D. economists and other professionals who produce high-quality policy analysis and scholarly research in a variety of applied microeconomic fields to support the Bank’s mission.

Key responsibilities include
• Managing the group, setting expectations and objectives, providing ongoing guidance, mentorship, and feedback, and assessing staff performance
• Overseeing and providing intellectual leadership for the development and execution of policy projects and initiatives
• Contributing individually to policy briefings for senior leadership on issues related to current monetary policy considerations, longer-term economic developments, and other Bank priorities
• Keeping up a strong individual research program leading to publications in high-quality academic journals
• In collaboration with peers, leading department initiatives, creating and sustaining a collegial culture, and furthering the Chicago Fed’s commitment to excellence in research and policy

Candidates should
• Have a PhD in economics or a related field and significant post-PhD work experience
• Have a significant record of research success in applied microeconomics, as demonstrated by publications in high-quality academic journals
• Have a significant record of conducting in-depth, policy-related microeconomic analysis

Work Location
This position will be based in our Chicago office and we expect the role to work a hybrid work schedule with 3 days a week in person starting in 2022
