Senior Researcher, Center for Optimized Student Support

Background: The Center for Optimized Student Support (COSS) at Boston College is a hub for research and practice on systems to support children’s thriving. COSS houses City Connects, an evidence-based approach to addressing the out-of-school factors that can impact students’ success in schools. Implemented in over 90 schools across six states, City Connects connects every student to a tailored set of supports and enrichments in the school and community.

Core Responsibilities:
● Serve as a Principal Investigator or Senior Researcher for research projects that focus on analyzing the impact of intervention efforts and generating new knowledge:
○ Lead/co-lead education research projects from conceptualization to dissemination
○ Collaboratively design studies and select analytic methods
○ Conduct and document statistical analyses
○ Develop and maintain large data files and analytic data sets
○ Create reports and presentations for various audiences
○ Disseminate findings through conference presentations and manuscripts for publication
● Contribute to grant proposals
● Mentor junior staff
● Enhance the quality, relevance, and usefulness of the Center’s research work

Minimum Qualifications:
● Ph.D. degree in statistics, educational research, economics, or related field
● Deep knowledge of research methodology from education/social science research
● Advanced proficiency in using STATA, SPSS, R, or similar statistical/analytical software ● Committed to opportunities to promote child development and thriving

Preferred Qualifications:
● At least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience
● Experience leading and/or coaching others to produce rigorous research
● Extensive experience managing large datasets
● Experience in project management
● Experience with reviewing and/or conducting program evaluations

● Excellent communication, organization, and collaborative skills
● Ability to work productively with a diverse team
● Flexible and adaptable
