Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Central Bank of Chile seeks recent PhD (in Economics, Statistics or Computer Science) graduates, or established policy economist with expertise in economics and data science to join the Big Data Analysis Department in the Monetary Policy Division. Prior experience working with big data is an asset.

Researchers are expected to conduct policy-oriented research using large datasets of the Chilean economy to develop novel applied economic methods to study issues of interest of the Bank’s Board of Directors or Chief Economist. The Bank collects and maintains large datasets (eg. Customs declarations, firms’ balance sheets, business-to-business transactions, matched employer-employee, and several expectations surveys among others) making it an excellent environment for someone with an applied background.

This is an ideal position for someone looking to contribute with their work to policy debate and publishing their work in top international journals. The successful candidate must have an interest in developing a policy relevant research agenda, excellent understanding of the latest applied economic methods, ability to interpret empirical findings with economic theory, and fluency in working with packages such as Python, R, STATA, etc. He or she must also possess superior writing and speaking skills.

The position is full time, open ended, and offers an internationally competitive salary and benefit package. Additional information about the Research Department may be found at https://www.bcentral.cl/en/web/banco-central/investigation.

Your application should include your vita, one or more research papers, three references (they will be contacted in the final stage of the process). Review of applications begins immediately.

The Bank is an equal opportunity employer.
