Research Assistant – Cambridge, MA

Professor Michael Stepner in the Economics Department at the University of Toronto is hiring one full-time research assistant at the NBER, with a start date during the summer of 2021. This research assistant will work on multiple projects in the fields of public economics and health economics, with a general focus on how public policy can improve the health and financial security of low-income populations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in econometrics and statistical programming; enthusiasm for empirical research on topics in health and public economics; interest in learning new skills on the job; and excellent attention to detail.

Duties include:
• Developing analytical files from large datasets
• Statistical analysis and data visualization using Stata
• Programming using best practices for reproducible research
• Summarizing and presenting findings, preparing slide decks, assisting with manuscripts
• Managing multiple workstreams and deadlines
• Working independently and as a member of a research team

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, or a related quantitative field
• Knowledge of Stata, including experience managing large datasets

Preferred:
• Experience developing portable and reproducible programs
• Prior research assistant experience
