Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) is an independent, non-profit research institute located in Washington, D.C. with a mission to produce research and analysis that stimulates the national conversation on the causes of rising U.S. health spending. HCCI maintains a national, multi- payer, longitudinal dataset containing private health insurance claims aggregated across dozens of health insurers, addition to Medicare Fee-for-Service data, representing about 100 million covered lives a year. Researchers and policymakers use HCCI’s data to study the health care system, evaluate existing and new policies, and assess quality. HCCI’s own multi-disciplinary team of researchers produces reports of import to major stakeholders in health care in an academic but fast-paced, start-up environment. HCCI partners on projects with multiple leading academic institutions around the U.S., collaborates with media organizations such as The New York Times, Vox, The Washington Post, NBC, and KHN, and provides insights and recommendations to national and state legislators. For further information, please visit our website at www.healthcostinstitute.org.

We are looking for Senior Researchers to join our dynamic team to advance HCCI’s mission. These positions are ideal for candidates with advanced academic training and/or government or industry research experience seeking opportunities to define research priorities and direct project teams to produce applied, policy-relevant research on key health care topics.

Senior Researchers will:
- Contribute to and help shape the HCCI research agenda
- Lead and manage research projects, including identifying, applying for and managing grant opportunities and directing a research team
- Offer strategic and substantive support to other HCCI research projects and mission-critical activities
- Support HCCI communications efforts, including promotion of published work

In our candidates we look for:
- PhD (or other advanced degree) in economics, health services research, public policy, or related discipline
- Experience working with health care claims as a health service researcher, economist, senior data analyst, or actuary
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as SAS and STATA
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to write about quantitative findings for non-quantitative audiences
- Experience working in an exciting and demanding entrepreneurial environment

HCCI provides competitive salaries and benefits to full-time employees including a 403B retirement scheme with immediate vesting of a 10% employer contribution, health insurance, gym reimbursement, and other benefits.
