The Strategy Development Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the leading source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean, is looking for Applied Economists (or professionals in related areas) with experience in impact evaluation and research in development contexts, to work as consultants in Washington, DC. Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: social protection, health, education, gender and diversity, firms, technology, capital markets, transport, agriculture, rural development, climate, environment and natural resource management, energy, citizen security, reform of the state and fiscal management; and should have strong computer skills in Stata, and (highly desirable) experience with R, Python, machine learning techniques, and in analyzing GIS data and big data.

Consultants that have worked in this capacity in the division have moved on to staff positions at the IDB, World Bank, academic institutions, or have continued doctoral studies in highly competitive programs. You will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and will be part of a highly dynamic and intellectually challenging environment with ample opportunities for research collaboration and generating publishable work in peer-reviewed journals.

We are looking for professionals with two profiles:

Impact Evaluation Consultants that will (i) work in the design and implementation of impact evaluations of IDB operations; (ii) participate in the preparation of development effectiveness reports; (iii) participate in the review of projects in the preparation and completion stages; and (iv) contribute in a range of technical and sector topics. Applicants should have a master’s degree (doctoral degree highly preferred) in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, International Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Economics, Demography or related field, and at least five years of relevant professional and academic experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Impact Evaluation Support Consultants that will (i) prepare data and conduct econometric analysis in support of evaluation and research; (ii) prepare background studies, literature reviews, and other research support activities; (iii) provide methodological, statistical and econometric support; (iv) support data collection activities; (v) analyze and evaluate projects, strategies, and programming documents. Applicants should have a bachelor’s (master’s highly preferred) degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, International Development, Agriculture Economics, Demography or related field, and at least two years of relevant professional and academic experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
