Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Tax Foundation is the nation’s leading independent tax policy nonprofit. Since 1937, our principled research, insightful analysis, and engaged experts have informed smarter tax policy at the federal, state, and global levels. For over 80 years, our goal has remained the same: to improve lives through tax policies that lead to greater economic growth and opportunity. We use our research and analysis to bring tax changes to the national spotlight, foster competition among the states, and advise policymakers on how to improve their tax systems.

Tax Foundation’s Federal Team needs an economist to research and write about tax policy and its impacts on the federal budget and economy. The primary focus will be development and use of our Taxes and Growth model (TAG), a general equilibrium model used to simulate the effects of tax policies on the economy and on government revenues and budgets.

Responsibilities
• Work with a team of economists and policy analysts to simulate the effects of tax policy changes using TAG, including conventional revenue estimation and macroeconomic modeling
• Research and develop new methods to build out TAG capabilities
• Research and write about tax policy and the economy, both in short form and longer form studies
• Communicate research findings to a variety of audiences, including academics, journalists, and policymakers

Qualifications/Skills
• PhD or equivalent training in economics with a focus on public finance, international economics, macroeconomics or related area
• Strong analytical and modeling skills, e.g., general equilibrium modeling
• Good communication and writing skills
• Ability to work well within a team and on tight deadlines

Nice-to-haves
• Experience researching and writing about public policy
• Experience working with and analyzing large datasets, e.g., BEA and IRS
• Experience building large scale models
• Experience with tax revenue estimation
• Programming skills, e.g., Python
