The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for an open-rank position to teach introductory corporate finance and other courses related to their fields of research.

We are searching for an early to mid-career economist with a potential for excellence in teaching and research. We are looking for candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of Colby’s academic community through their scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and service. We especially encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups in economics and are looking for candidates who can engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Each member of the department faculty is expected to be able to contribute to the department’s core curriculum and offer elective courses that are informed by their scholarship. We seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the department through their teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and service. We are looking for candidates who can work with us to engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups in economics.

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in Central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. Our department faculty have active research agendas generously supported by the College, including a pre-tenure sabbatical during the fourth year, start-up and travel funds, divisional research grant opportunities, and department funded student research and teaching assistants. The teaching load at Colby is 4.5 courses per year, with a reduced load for new Ph.D.s in their first two years.

Our review of completed applications will begin on November 30, 2020 and continue until the position is filled. We plan to conduct remote interviews via electronic conferencing to determine a set of finalists for this position.

To be considered for an interview, your application dossier must include: (i) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby, outlines your research agenda, you relevant experience for teaching introductory finance courses, and communicates how a liberal arts environment dedicated to diversity and inclusion aligns with your teaching philosophy; (ii) your curriculum vitae; (iii) three letters of recommendation; (iv) a representative sample of your research; (v) your graduate transcript; and (vi) evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness, including course evaluations if available. Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. prior to September 1, 2021.
