This role is part of the Market Access Scientific and External Strategy team within the Value & Evidence (V&E) Scientific Engagement Group. With internal and external partners, the team focuses on analyzing health policies and generating economic evidence to shape scientific strategies and policies affecting the pharmaceutical and broader healthcare marketplace in the US. This role will have three main responsibilities:

1. Lead external engagement around current and evolving US health and market access policies, including health insurance policy, economic and financing models, and drug value assessment frameworks.
2. Synthesize or generate data to support Janssen’s patient-centric policy positions.
3. Support Market Access Scientific Strategy and policy planning for Janssen compounds currently in early development. Collaborate across the organization to prepare teams for future market access challenges through activities such as: providing US payer and other stakeholder input into clinical and observational study designs and directing the execution of research studies and other related projects designed to substantiate the economic value of Janssen compounds.
Support Market Access Scientific Strategy and policy planning for Janssen compounds currently in early development. Collaborate across the organization to prepare teams for future market access challenges through activities such as: providing US payer and other stakeholder input into clinical and observational study designs and directing the execution of research studies and other related projects designed to substantiate the economic value of Janssen compounds.
Examples of key functions related to the responsibility 1 & 2 above include:
• Analyze and summarize policy proposals related to economic evaluation, drug cost and pricing, and proposed policy solutions.
• Generate and publish evidence to strengthen economic messages linked to innovations improving patient outcomes and/or healthcare efficiency.
• Partner within V&E and Health Policy functions to develop Janssen’s overarching strategic positions on key health economic and policy issues and provide supporting data.
• Draft responses for analyses, models, and policy papers released by external value assessment groups impacting various Therapeutic Areas (TAs) for Janssen (e.g. ICER, NCCN, ASCO, etc…)
• Monitor and engage with organizations influencing benefit design, access, provider payment policy, patient incentives, coverage and reimbursement.
• Foster strong external relationships with thought leaders, researchers, and policy partners, including academics, professional society leads, and customer contacts, to validate, refine, and share Janssen’s perspectives and strategies around the issues above.
Examples of key functions related to the responsibility 3 above include:
• Contribute to forming and providing robust US strategic market access input into clinical Research and Development (R&D) for key pipeline products, based on our understanding of US healthcare system’s needs for evidence 3-5 years into the future.
• Become an integrated part of the assigned V&E TA team to shape and develop the Market Access Scientific Strategy and Evidence Generation Plan
• Lead evidence generation activities to support future market access for the Therapeutic Areas in partnership with V&E colleagues or external research organizations
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in economics, statistics, health policy or related field is required. Doctorate in economics is preferred.
• 7 years of experience in the healthcare industry required, preferably in health economics, market access or related functions
• Extensive knowledge of the US healthcare system, including models of financing, industry structure, and health care reform policy options is required.
• Solid understanding of HTA (health technology assessment), including methodological/data challenges is preferred
• ¨ Experience in leading a cross-functional team in a matrix environment is preferred
• Ability to facilitate internal/external alignment across multiple stakeholders on policy-shaping
• ¨ Requires a highly motivated, creative self-starter with a demonstrated track record of leadership and achievement
• < 15% for domestic travel
